Finally published: Our RCT-manual for the treatment of PNES with a body-focused group intervention! Grateful to @becksenf and j devine. https://t.co/V8FR6jzE0K
Clearly written best-practice example of two case-reports in FND.
Precisely explaining principles of therapy their detailed application.
And: demonstrating the efficacy of physio-based treatments while not being oversimplistic, with a plea for interdisciplinary treatment.
Two excellent video case reports illustrating improvement in functional movement disorder with physiotherapy from Christof Degen-Plöger, Anne Weissbach and others in Lübeck,.

FND: past, present and future.
My new editorial for a special FND issue of “L’Encéphale” co-ordinated by @guilhemcarle , Stéphane Mouchaba, @beagarcin1 and @CoralineHingray representing @fndfrance.

Weber et al. provide evidence in support of a stress–diathesis model of functional neurological disorders. They identify emotional neglect as a psychological risk factor, and reduced hippocampus & amygdala volume as a predisposing biological trait marker. https://t.co/ilCBDaJrcj
Important work towards integration of care. Proud to see our implementation led by my multitalented friend Rosa Michaelis featured. Addressing mental health in epilepsy services is essential, but it can't be done "on the side" - dedicated staff is necessary!

"Learning to see both the patient and the person is a trite call for empathy in medicine, but one that bears repeating as functional disorders are slowly re-entering mainstream neurology"
We cannot overestimate the value of your words, which rightly have been awarded here.
"Teaching is frequently judged inferior to research by academic leaders." In a new Offline, our Editor-in-Chief challenges this view.

NEW! Neurosymptoms FND Guide Formulator - a new tool for people with FND on the https://t.co/Onj821lGr5 website. This thread explains why we hope it will help patients and clinicians make sense of FND and improve communication. https://t.co/y1A6RAeno7 . 1/…

Erleben und diskutieren Sie u.a. mit Vertreter*innen von Greenpeace, psychologists for future, @_mtiemann@leadohm C.Nikendei,
I propose to redefine 'la belle indifférence' to denote the incongruous indifference of doctors toward the obvious suffering of people with functional neurological disorders. It'll be a much more useful clinical sign, indicating lack of understanding.
Sharing “A New Science of Emotion: Implications for Functional Neurological Disorder”, just published in @Brain1878. Great collaboration with @SaraParedesEch1, @popkirov, @LFeldmanBarrett, @PerezMGHLab! Some highlights of the paper below 🧵. (1/15) https://t.co/EDeADWXK1X
@FNDSociety@JanBakerVoice Absolutely insightful and informed by overlapping practise of sprechen pathology and psychotherapeutic principles, thanks for sharing your experience!
🧠Neurologists: Want to assess cognitive deficits on ward rounds or in emergency situations? But you don't have the appropriate test printed out, your patient can't hold a pen or you don't have 30 min for full neuropsychology?

An exciting approach to a standardized research methodology for individual psychodynamic treatment in FND by @mjgutkin:
Measuring heterogeneity with a modified adult-attachment interview and translating it into a focus. Would be interested in clustering of patients for treatment?
I'm excited to share the newly published Shared Individual Formulation Therapy (SIFT): an open-label trial of a new therapy accommodating patient heterogeneity in functional neurological disorder #JournalofNeurology#FND https://t.co/EvpSwO6Zob
Superb new study on triggers of (mostly paroxysmal) functional movement disorders. Emotional triggers seem very important and have to be addressed in treatment. (Screenshot incomplete, see link for full article)
