I've been watching the past few weeks as pretty much everyone I worked with at Microsoft is taking the voluntary retirement deal
Reminds me how much I miss all my friends from MSFT. If we haven't talked in a while, DM me. We should catch up.
What I did this week:
Used OpenCV, Pillow, and Tesseract to process a folder with images of an out-of-print book and extract the text

Suddenly and unexpectedly looking for a new job
I've got 10+ years experience as a software developer mainly in the .NET stack, but I've been working with Azure Cog Services and building generative AI solutions on the side the last few months
Hit me up! I'd love to chat.
You can check out my LinkedIn or my website / blog / portfolio
I'm a relentless tinker and a tenacious builder. I love solving problems, helping customers, and training people in new tech

If you are looking for something to read/study this weekend, I added lots of LLM-related bonus from-scratch coding resources over the last few months (from implementing Llama 3.2 to preference tuning with DPO): https://t.co/jMi3McHWJD
I hope you find them useful!
Steadily emerging is a ‘system of systems’ that is intelligent & interactive, with a rich, layered understanding. It goes beyond surface aesthetics into something that changes + grows as you do, operating not just through commands, but through ongoing and evolving conversations.
The overlooked GenAI use case: cleaning, processing, and analyzing data.
https://t.co/j9hFXWJvvF
Job post data tell us what companies plan to do with GenAI. The most common use case is data analytics projects. Examples:
- AstraZeneca: using LLMs on freeform documents to structure results from their Extractables & Leachables testing (https://t.co/wbamJnQEEN)
- Trafigura: The Document AI team is using LLMs to extract data from a corpus of commodity trading documents to generate credit reports
(https://t.co/mujn0ksa90)
The startup ecosystem is overlooking this use case, instead focusing on other areas such as customer support, sales & marketing and code gen.
The case for buying AMD stock is that maybe they will somehow get their stuff together and build products that can effectively compete with NVidia

@N1car I'm astonished how low the "Employee salaries" is compared to... almost anything! They spend almost as much on data as on salaries.
I don't think a lot of companies are really prepared for the scale of costs in building custom solutions.
Developing a Windows app but not sure which UI framework to choose? 🤔
Watch @alvinashcraft's session from Visual Studio Live! He breaks down each framework to help you choose the right one for your project!👇

how software actually works for 99% of engineers: someone way smarter than you solved a really hard problem and now you build on top of their solution like adult legos and think you're a genius
