#RIP naval aviator and astronaut Jim Lovell who passed away on Thursday at the age of 97. A 1952 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Lovell flew F2H Banshee fighters before being selected for NASA’s Gemini program. In 1970, he commanded the near-tragic Apollo 13 mission.

After USS Strong was sunk #OTD in 1943, LT Hugh Miller washed up on a Japanese-held island. Though wounded, alone, and without a rifle, he launched a month-long guerrilla campaign using grenades he found on a dead soldier. He eliminated enemy patrols and several machine gun nests before being rescued.

This article has some good information, but the idea that the 2016 teacher pay increase “failed” is crazy. A short thread: look at the first chart at least because it shows how wrong this is.
I would expect a major topic this legislative session will be that last point - to what extent is there a lag between state funding increases and teacher pay increases? Why is that lag there? And what should the state do about it?
