@mwrldn@athcanft to each their own
only 10% will subscribe and continue
and only 10% of conversions will actually remember the app and continue to use it long enough to give a review through in-app prompts (say at like a 3 day or 5 day streak)
game recognizes game and plays the game to compete
@mwrldn@athcanft if first impressions are everything and it's a rating of the first impression and the idea of the app as a whole, i wouldn't call it a dishonest tactic
something like claiming "millions love our app" would be dishonesty
@consumerxai thanks for the in-depth guide, i will be utilizing this.
one question - is it going to kill me if i use samsung a17s for budget efficiency?
Couldn't agree more. Paid ads on a freemium app are one of the most painful cash burns.
I’ve been building one with a close friend. I use it daily and believe in it. Instead of shelving it, I’m shifting to organic growth and directing spend toward hard-paywalled apps that better build a revenue moat.
Freemium with a 1-month trial for a low cost is tempting when you want to build an app to capture the masses
But then you realize it takes immense capital and careful strategy combined to push it out to mass markets, many ICP networks.
I wouldn't call it a pursuit that isn't worthwhile, but it's something you do when you have time, capital and ideally reputation, these three combined will put you in front of millions of people far easier.
So start small, niched, authentic, and hard-paywalled.
Here’s the alternative network we built, OnlyPals, that focuses on putting real friends together in the real world, through shared routines and uplifting one another

Social apps are completely broken.
I know what my friends liked. I see what they repost and the life they aspire to. I know what news they are annoyed at this week.
But I don’t know if they’re sleeping okay, hitting the gym, or eating well. I don’t know anything real about them anymore.
We’re all just broadcasting into the void and calling it connection
Maybe they finally got that workout in, and now inviting them to the gym with you makes sense again. Maybe they went fishing, and you haven’t gone in years. Maybe they hosted a dinner for somebody, and maybe you can host for them.
These are the updates I actually care about. It’s the small things that add quality years to our lives.
So we built something different. OnlyPals strips away everything that doesn’t matter. No algorithm. No likes. No reposts. No strangers. Just you and your people, showing up daily with what they’re actually doing.
It’s a social habit tracker. You claim points for things that genuinely improve your day—a walk, a workout session, reading, calling a friend, going to bed on time. Then you see what your friends claimed too. You see where your friends are enjoying their time and you get notified if you’re in the same area.
That’s the whole app.
November 2025 vs March 2026
Back on my daily gym, nutrition tracking, and skincare routine. Caffeine and cigarette free for a couple months now.
Excited to see what the rest of the year has in store for me
