@ryaneharding Good point, We have many ways we can listen to music from all over the world. I think the most important part is the quality of the music. #MUS2011W21
@edevilla15 I agree this is important! We no longer need to showcase Canadian musicians instead they should be celebrated. We have awards such as the junos for just that! #MUS2011W21
Enforcing a quota on Canadian content on was important in the 70s due to the U.S. dominated airways. But today, I feel like there is enough established Canadian artists to have a healthy mix of North American music. #MUS2011W21
@ryaneharding I agree with you here Ryan! I love being able to listen to my favourite artist whenever I want but nothing beats a good live show! #MUS2011W21
@NickKehoe13 I agree with you Nick! Wald uses an extremely outlandish title to draw more attention to his article. I guess it works but it’s definitely not in taste! #MUS2011W21
I believe Walds assessment is far from the reality. People buy or stream music for convenience sake. Personally, I feel like there is no substitute for live shows and ever since covid hit, more people have gained a better appreciation for them. #MUS2011W21
@ryaneharding This is an honest take this! Artist are trying to make livings creating/selling music and that music is being taken and made to be someone else’s. It’s like if someone at your job took credit for the work you did and got a raise for it! #MUS2011W21
@Mackenz46588111 Great point Mack! I feel like a large portion of what made the song good in the first place is removed while covering a song. Originality is lacking and even worse the song is more successful! #MUS2011W21
Music doesn’t need to be changed to appeal to different audiences. This is why authors use the term “schlock rock” when referring to this type of music. They believe these “covers” are much too different from the original (clean lyrics, changed musical styles) #MUS2011W21
@AndrewTuck11 100% agree here Andrew. Ray Charles was original in terms of his musical style and had totally shaped the boundaries of country music! #MUS2011W21
@ryaneharding A very interesting point Ryan! Ray Charles has a defined sound that has shaped a genre of music as we know it! His pain and passion shines through his work. #MUS2011W21
#MUS2011W21 Ray Charles uses a breaking voice in "I've got a woman" to give the song emotional value, a classic in blues. Using breaking voice Ray was able to develop an important emotional theme. "...There's pain and there's joy, and there's a way to deal with both"-Ray Charles
@angela_greenee I agree with this. Its sad to see that enjoying some types of music can negatively impact the experience. But, on the bright side being able to find musical connections has been made 100x easier. #MUS2011W21
@scbrake Agreed. Its extremely important for the artist to be paid for their work! With streaming services providing another way of them making their money. #MUS2011W21
Listening to music in todays world of streaming services and social medias is as easy as it ever has been. With on-demand music services such as Spotify, you can listen to music while on the go at any time while having the convenience of being an app on your phone. #MUS2011W21
