Shameless plug for my paper in Religions: "Strengthening Christian Identity through Scripture Songwriting in Indonesia" https://t.co/kYDDhZI81n in a special issue edited by @jeremyperigo and John MacInnis @Religions_MDPI@MDPIOpenAccess
@JCollinHuber Many parents of creative children (which is every child) asks me “how do we cultivate their creativity?” I tell them “be a Maker yourself!” Children love to see their parents be creative, and we need to truly “MAKE a living” in all we do.
American individualism is a disembodied way of being. One lives as if they have no ties and thus no obligation to others. But when everyone seeks only their own good, the most vulnerable in society suffer.

How can we be assured that the knowledge gained by interaction with the world is different from and not worse than knowledge formulated in the mind? 1/2
Why does the church needs its poets? B/c poets are shepherds of words, teaching us to be careful in an often-careless world. They help us to feel the truth, to define reality, and to make our prayers and praises potent, so that the heart might say to God all that it needs to say.
One of the most radical, Jesusy, upside-down-kingdom, counter-cultural things we could be doing is to be generous-spirited toward others here. Twitter breeds not true sociality but, at best, self-regard, and, at worst, self-absorption. Try to support others as much as possible.🙏
@caseybhough@byrd_brad@WadeStoneinc Congrats! Excited to see where this leads. Writing is growing on me the more I do it, which is a good thing because I’ve got a lot more of it in my future.
@william_collen What’s fitting in this category would be all kinds of local artistic expressions that have been around for a while and have deep meaning in a community. Songs, dances, dramas, proverbs, poems, stories, song-dance-story combos, fabric, foods, carvings, etc etc
Pondering the difference between the words “traditional” and “established” and if there are any other alternatives out there. I’m always uncomfortable talking about “traditional arts” because it’s not very clear what’s meant by it.
@william_collen I would probably not say “academic” because that implies “high art” to me, whereas I work with minority communities a lot. Often they struggle with seeing their arts as valuable, especially if they don’t think their arts fit into the classical euroamerican artistic domains.
@soundchaser480 I like “local” too, but I was trying to think of ways to talk about the older things with some history and inherited meaning. Local could also be new stuff, and I wanted a way to talk about the art that’s been around for a while. I like “heritage” too…
