A short piece I wrote for the DDN on accessory dwelling units. Dayton recently made ADUs conditional uses in all residential zoning districts (only one board review to get approved). Have a backyard? #dayton260k

“She took participants outside in two conditions. Half of them walked through a Stanford courtyard. The other half were pushed through the same courtyard in a wheelchair. Same outdoor stimulation. Same scenery. The only difference was whether the legs were moving”
Sheer genius
The Rochester, NY highway removal was able to reclaim 6.5 acres of land, leading to $229 million in development and millions in new tax revenue for the city.
We need more urban highway removals.
STOP cutting corners!!
They ‘kill’. Make all 90 degrees.
Walking. Must be top priority. A second save can kill a child.
Cities: do NOT cut corners making LIVING Older Healthier & Happier the easy choice.
Policies + Infra + Programs
i will never understand people who think walkable urbanism is an impossible goal in the US.
if we can level communities to build highways, we can level highways to build communities.
Highways/Interstates should be harder to build than mass transit.
It should be easier to fund, build, run, and zone for mass transit in U.S. cities.
We've picked winners and losers in this country the wrong way for a century, and need to be honest that that's what we've done.
Philadelphia should pay for free student SEPTA passes that cover trips all day and all year, rather than only during daytime hours on school days, Councilmember Rue Landau said Monday.

Over the last half century, the *kind* of apartments we have built has changed
Post GFC, developers have shifted towards building more, smaller units
In the City of Charlotte (not metro) the SHARE % of new units built as Studios has gone up by 5X'd ... 2% to 11%
I think the funds should be appropriated toward public transit and I generally am not supportive of extra or regressive tax’s or those that would harm the everyday citizen.
Taxing uber is a win/win, we gain revenue for our schools and we encourage folks to use transit instead.
Dayton, get with the program!...our inability to integrate transit into our arterial street redesigns hurts the entire region and keeps everyone more car-dependent
🚍 What defines great Bus Rapid Transit?

“Miami of Ohio” is driving me insane man. They can’t just say “Miami” since the hurricanes aren’t playing. They could say “the RedHawks” too. They shouldn’t be saying “Miami of Ohio” unless we’re playing Miami OF FLORIDA!
