As a self-taught fashion illustrator who has been fortunate to be successful for 15+ years, I’ve gone from creating using traditionally mediums, to drawing digitally & continuing to evolve at my own pace. I’ve been able to maintain longevity and continue to make an impact without compromising my craft.

Fashion illustration is already a hugely under appreciated part of the fashion industry, so the recent heavy reliance on AI generated art is incredibly disheartening. I’m seeing people claim to be artists & fashion illustrators using prompts to create their work. Even luxury fashion labels are starting to choose AI generated fashion illustrations over hiring fashion illustrators with genuine skill and craftsmanship. Personally, I feel like it’s lazy and dilutes the purpose of being an artist to begin with. I’d feel like a fraud in the comments, accepting praise for something that a computer made.

To me, AI-generated fashion illustration is often easy to spot. It can create the illusion of a hand drawn sketch but is entirely done by a computer, and it ultimately makes the work feel less distinctive. More importantly, it takes opportunities away from real illustrators who may not have the same visibility/platform as me & that rely on their craft for a living. It also is raising serious concerns about AI using artists work without consent.

So, this is simply an encouragement to keep creating with your hands. There’s nothing more inspiring than seeing genuine skill, individuality and artistry on display. That human to human connection with creativity is something AI can try to imitate, but can never replace and will always be superior! #FashionIllustration #DigitalArt #AI
