NEW: BLACKBERRY earns $250K from Canadian theatres in its second weekend — just a 13% drop, which is an incredible hold for any movie, let alone a low-budget Canadian comedy. Matt Johnson’s film has also crossed $1M mark in U.S. (@IFCFilms has it there, @Elevation_Pics here.)
@wantingtobeseen Netflix’s Fall release list! Finding it very suspicious that something as prestige as Maestro isn’t on their upcoming film slate

Uhhhh anyone know if Maestro has been pushed to next year?? It’s suspiciously missing from this list of Netflix’s fall movie releases (I know it says “Selected Films”, but you’d think they’d include the new movie from Bradley Cooper on here)
@expert_oscar Plus, going against The Elephant Whisperers is the stat that the last time a nature doc won this category was 1968 (at least from what I can tell from a quick look over the winners). This type of movie doesn’t win. They prefer the bio-docs and political picks.
@expert_oscar Documentary short has to be Stranger at the Gate. Some may call it misguided, but we KNOW the Academy goes for this type of thing (Skin, Two Distant Strangers). It’s gonna hit with voters. Politically relevant is always good in this category
when @realsarahpolley wins her first oscar for "women talking," all of toronto should take to the streets and celebrate, just like when the raptors won.
@adanielfilm@NextBestPicture My theory is that they’re saving money. Most campaign funds for A24 are going to EEAAO, so rather than doing a long campaign for The Whale, they’re probably going to do a last minute blitz
