Aidan Curry was supposed to debut in 2026 on Sunday, but that game ended up being postponed so Curry got the ball tonight and he really impressed. Curry pitched 4 innings tonight, allowing 5 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks most notably, and picked up 7 strikeouts on 68 pitches (77% strikes).
After a big league appearance late in spring I said I would watch Curry’s start to 2026 closely, and so far I love what I see. Like I said, the most notable aspect of Curry’s performance tonight was that he did not allow any free bases. That was a big issue for Curry last year, and frankly for most of his career as of late.
Tonight was very fastball heavy from Curry, but mixed in his cutter and slider, and later in his outing sprinkled in more curveballs and changeups. I take no issue with Curry’s fastball usage because that pitch is legit. It’s a true plus plus offering that he can get up to 98, averages around 18” of vertical break on, and is all then compounded by his elite 7 feet of extension.
The pitch to watch for Curry this season is his kick-changeup. He introduced it in the latter half of last season, and it led to some very impressive and promising results. The shape is elite, averaging around 0” of vertical break (18 inches of separation off his fastball), and just dies at the plate to create a very steep approach angle. That’s going to be an important pitch for Curry, so it’ll be one to monitor his confidence on throughout the year.
It was a great outing from Curry who didn’t let soft contact hits bother him, and really dominated the zone. He did get himself into some long counts at times due to that, but I’m more than pleased with this first start of the season.
One of these is Cam Schlitter from the spring. The other is Khristian Curtis. Curtis is probably never going to have that power curve, but he has a change up that Schlittler does not. If they were to add a sinker to his arsenal I could see a lot of similarities. Obviously Cam has a tick or two on him.
14K 3BB with a 22% swinging strike rate between this start and his spring with the MLB squad. Fastball has gained a tick and roughly 3 inches of IVB since last season. 50 & 36% whiff on the slider and change up last year.

Payton Tolle racks up SEVEN punchouts over three scoreless frames for the @RedSox.
MLB's No. 19 prospect reached 100.2 mph with his 70-grade four-seamer in the outing.
Would love a big redemption year from one of my old prospect crushes. Was obsessed with him in A-ball. Love what I’m seeing this offseason. If he’s sitting 94–95, he could be a big riser. There was some real statistical smoke in the second half last year.

#Rangers prospect RHP Aidan Curry.
Curry faced off against Rangers regulars on the back fields and looked good - with a 96 MPH fastball with 19 IVB, and touched 98.
