@HBendaas@JonathanCohn I wish more people saw it as insane. How many are supported by weapons contractors again? Isn’t it most of them? Maybe 4-6 aren’t? Ugh
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle I think they are one of few AI exploitation voices out there. Most are just riding the hype. I appreciate the nonconformist take personally and I think many others do too. Do you think DLSS 5 is something the game industry needs?
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle This topic seems serious to me and others. All this BS is enshittifying nearly everything, especially the technology and services used to create and play games. So it seems fair game to me
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle If I recall, GN isn’t super serious and as long as I’ve followed them, they poke and have fun. This seems like that. Would you rather the same post in a more serious tone? Or none at all?
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle So your issue is with GN because you don’t want them reporting on the AI market? Doesn’t this affect games? Say the bubble is real and these data centers never get built and all the RAM and other components are screwed for years. Would this not be a story?
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle My argument isn’t that it isn’t needed. It absolutely is. Mine is around being right next to the sounds, smells, etc, that come with a service like that.
Again, I’m still not sure what exactly it is you’re mad about here or arguing for.
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle Got it. So what’s your stake in the matter? Just to counter nimbyism? What makes you so angry about it? Would you be ok with a dump or sewer treatment plant being built next to you? It just seems you’re lumping nimbyism into one giant thing and I’m trying to understand
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle They don’t have any obligation to the people who live right next to them or adjacent communities which draw the same water and power? Would you be fine having one next to your home?
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle That’s exactly what people are fighting for. It has to be this way because data centers providers won’t do anything of the sort unless they’re pushed to do so
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle Hear your point there. I think people would celebrate infrastructure that had a strong purpose and positive impact/benefits to people rather than just the owners of the tech. Some would complain, sure. But far less. Again, how do these data centers help the average American?
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle That’s your opinion. I would suggest some research into the on-the-ground journalism being done about how people in these towns are affected both economically and medically. It’s not even close to a McDonald’s being built. How are these data centers helping people?
@Yrouel86@GamersNexus@Oracle I think I see your point. I think many are upset at the reasons behind building many of these data centers, the general distrust around it, and the negative effects of these projects to the local communities that have been seen. To the point where communities are fighting them
@GamersNexus@Oracle Wasn't meant as a compliment, more like you got drunk on your self righteousness and holier than thou attitude which turned you from an enjoyable content creator that from time to time dealt with serious topics to an insufferable prick that can only whine and bitch about stuff
A society that cannot take care of its elderly is no society at all.
Equally, a society that leaves its young people behind – saddled in debt with no hope of ever owning home or retiring with dignity – is no society at all.
