My first book of short stories and novellas SIX TRAINS OF NO RETURN will be published on 3/3/2026 by @ASP_Boston Many thanks to all those editors and fellow writers who gave home to my stories: @kenyonreview@NERweb@BigCityLit and others https://t.co/DjCYtSqPxE
“No government—regardless of which party is in power—should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue.” - President Alan Garber https://t.co/6cQQpcJVTd
BREAKING: A Russian scientist who opposed Putin’s war, fled Russia & found work at Harvard was detained at Logan Airport returning from a French academic conference and has been sent to an immigration detention center in Louisiana for deportation to Russia https://t.co/tHRM015aMP
Today, @RFERL was informed that the federal grant agreement funding our global operations has been terminated.
The cancellation of @RFERL's grant agreement would be a gift to America's enemies. Read our full release.

I came here as a refugee from the collapsing USSR in 1991. Three decades later, I played a small part in welcoming refugees from Ukraine to the US. Their status is about to be revoked. The cities they fled are occupied. Will they be deported into the hands of murderers?
Trump‘s call with Putin makes no mention of the fact that Russia started this unprovoked invasion and that Putin continues it every day and could end the killing at any time. Putin is a war criminal, a mass murderer still on the loose. Normalizing him is abhorrent.
As ever with comrade @simonmontefiore you get astute political analysis combined with broad historical sweep. The essay of the weekend. Read it if you care about what's happening in Syria - & you really should care.

Quick thread on how events in Syria affect Russian operations in Africa. First, Syria is the key logistics hub for military supplies, rotations etc. If Russia cannot keep its bases in Syria, what could replace them? (1/n)
What does the future look like for #Russia's Wagner Group and other mercenaries over a year after the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin? I spoke with @Jack_Mrgln, @JohnLechner1, @mg_kucherenko and @barabanch to find out.
Read my story for their insights. https://t.co/VNO9fLRJrW
“The conflicts of Ukraine, Gaza and Lebanon all come together and overlap in Aleppo.” My @WSJ analysis of how events outside Syria have resulted in a stunning reversal of the Syrian war. https://t.co/HIDDA9JXzk
Worth going back and revisiting the enormous effort Russia expended in air power, diplomacy, intelligence, money and influence and information operations when it took Aleppo in 2015/16. The vilification of rescue workers and journalists; the platforming and amplification of losers and cranks as regional experts; the spearphishing sprees; etc. etc. All that's come undone in just 48 hours.
If you are wondering how serious Russia is about any ‘peace deals,’ Alexey Gorinov is serving a 7-year term for merely suggesting that the way to peace is for Russia to withdraw its army from Ukraine. He is currently on a new trial. The sign says "Enough killing, stop the war."
So to recap...
rule-of-law voters get an alleged sex trafficker junkie as the country's top cop
pro-life voters get an abortion enthusiast leading HHS
America-First voters get a Kremlin stooge coordinating our intelligence ops
...but sure, go on believing in a "binary choice"
