Europe disrupted a deal between Putin and Trump that, according to the President of France, would not have brought anything good for Ukraine.

He said Trump was in such a rush to make peace that he was ready to effectively hand Ukraine to Putin: the agreement with the Russian dictator included transferring even territories that Russia had not occupied. Kyiv was not consulted.

A European delegation later went to Washington and convinced Trump to abandon this approach.

Macron said European leaders explained the real situation on the battlefield to the US president and showed that Ukraine continues to resist.

“Trump understood that Russia is not fulfilling its commitments, and its idea of peace is Ukraine’s capitulation,” the French president said.
