Thanks to Peter Higgs, I feel much better about my former manager evaluating me as below expectations, because I supposedly work in a non collaborative fashion/too independently, though they said my work was excellent.
Peter Higgs believes he would be regarded as “unproductive" in today’s academic system. He simply wouldn’t be able to “survive” in #science.
On his way to Stockholm to receive a Nobel Prize in 2013, he said the following in an interview to Guardian:
#AcademicTwitter#phdlife
When ethics review fails, when peer review fails, when editorial oversight fails, when professional norms are not aligned with just and ethical practice, we are left with no option but make demands like the authors of this open letter have made.
I have signed it. Please do too.
in case you missed it—the @LSHTM (which proudly publishes research on links bw migrant worker exploitation & public health) called the cops on its own cleaners yesterday who were protesting against racially segregated paygrades. share & shame them.
@MaartenvSmeden One of the key issues in academia is that quite a few senior staff seem to suffer from amnesia and forget that they were ever junior at a point in their career 🙄
Important @TheLancet article about recent reports on racism @LSTMnews & @LSHTM

Racism in two UK global health institutions https://t.co/QrxZfqh2hG
/those who created inequitable systems cannot be tasked with leading on reforms/
@DrMishalK@TheLancet@LSHTM Thank you for your message. I am happy to get in touch. I just wish to specify that I have resigned from @LSHTM a week ago, due to many of the reasons cited in the article.
Important editorial in @TheLancet today on research culture...
🦾Great to see so much space given to @wellcometrust report on what researchers think and its recommendations

@nadineseward @TheLancet@LSHTM@seyeabimbola The pretense of “decolonising Global Health” and claim of “promoting fairer partnerships” are definitely other triggers for me. I literally have zero hope at this point when it comes to these institutions doing the above.
@nadineseward @TheLancet@LSHTM And let us not forget: these instituons that claim to value “staff mental health and well-being”, and encourage to report misconducts whilst, at the same time, still having gatekeepers who tell junior staff to keep quiet not to jeopardize their careers.
1/3 Extremely happy to have published my main PhD findings in @lancetGH! 🎉🎊🥳
We designed a cluster #RCT evaluating the effect of a social norm-based intervention on #handwashing in urban #CotedIvoire !

@Chibeau@kacex@MaartenvSmeden Dear Joyce, I understand that this subject may be too complex for you to grasp where the issue lies, as you are seeing it from a western lens.
@MaartenvSmeden Having been to the Netherlands, I can assure you that you do not need to go as far as “an African country” to put your point across. You do have families who can’t afford school book fees in your country as in many other European and Western countries.
@MaartenvSmeden Being from, and I quote, “an African country”, I take offence at the generalisation you made about Africa (which is a continent, by the way), as well as you reinforcing this idea that there is only poverty in Africa.
