The panel talked about Keith Tkachuk's injury podcast comments and Ace had a pretty bold take on the impact this may have on Brady's future in Ottawa 👀
@KevinLorenz Is the CAL/VGK possibly a good thing because it might establish what a reasonable return would be for Faulk?
Also, is Whitecloud now an asset or a liability for CAL?
@KevinLorenz At this point, I’m all for shopping anyone and everyone and committing to the young guys. Faulk seems like he could be moved and get a decent return before the deadline. Schenn and Binner seem like summer trades.
@KevinLorenz He’s “a” guy. He is not “thee” guy. His cap hit will be super manageable moving forward if he’s consistently scoring 30+ goals. I’m not sure a team that is starved for offense will become better by trading one of their only goal scorers but we’ll see.
@KevinLorenz I think this summer could be trade heavy. Most UFAs are already off the board. Cap goes up. Contending teams can add additional pieces easily. I could see a scenario where 50 gets moved to EDM for a haul of picks this summer, but it’s almost impossible before then.
@KevinLorenz Yeah. The Blues will play 61 games before the trade deadline. They have played 23 to date. 38 or fewer games to determine if it’s time to pivot towards a re-whatever anyone wants to call it. The simple answer now is to simply be patient and for the boys to play better.
@KevinLorenz There’s almost zero chance that Army would punt on this season and embark on a rebuild 20-30 games into the season. Moving Faulk or Schenn wouldn’t scream “this is a rebuild”, but moving Binnington would. The standings are bunched and everyone’s cap situation is complicated.
@KevinLorenz Assuming the cap continues to rise, Kyrou’s cap
hit as a % continues to go down. He isn’t the perfect player, but he’s the one elite level goal scorer on the roster. I honestly don’t see a player on MTL’s roster that they’d be willing to give up that would make sense for STL.
@KevinLorenz@ash_gibbsblues I wouldn’t be surprised if Holloway’s next contact is somewhere in the 8ish AAV range for 4-5 seasons. Broberg is a lot harder for me to figure out. He seems like he’s a 2/3 on a good team and might not ever become a 1 (they’re not many of them left).
@KevinLorenz@ash_gibbsblues Bigget summer issued, for me at least, are the potential extensions for the offer sheet boys. Broberg is a no brainer to me given the org’s lack of potential top 4 dmen in the near future. Holloway is a bit more complex.
@KevinLorenz@ash_gibbsblues Agree. Binner has 2 seasons left on his deal. 3years for Hofer buys out all RFA years and staggers the free agency of each goalie. Would give Steen ample time to make a decision about the medium term future of the net.
@KevinLorenz@ash_gibbsblues I think players will be hesitant to “sell” their UFA years unless the money is stout. The rising cap will be interesting this summer. I’d guess players would want to shy away from long term deals.
@coopmavs This Olympics held surfing in Tahiti. A case could be made to hold a baseball game elsewhere. It’s highly unlikely (I get it), but it’s the simplest solution that allows the players to play while the leagues aren’t interrupted.
@2xAught7 I was there. Sat in an obstructed view seat behind the plate. Couldn’t see the apex of fly balls. Hard to believe it’s been two decades already.
