Recently I was asked how I find the time to still teach lessons in the classroom as a school admin.
The simple answer? I prioritize it.
It’s not about being the best teacher in the building. It’s not about having all of the answers. It’s about being the lead learner. Learn with the teachers! When teachers see that we are equally invested in student learning…
👊Relationships deepen
👊Trust builds
👊Intrinsic motivation grows.
Admins - don’t forget where you started - in the classroom. 🤍 We were teachers first! Support your teachers by getting in the trenches with them and never asking them to do anything you wouldn’t do yourself. This is leadership.
#multiplyexcellence
One shift I made in how I approach students who aren’t demonstrating motivation is to avoid jumping to conclusions and instead to ask, “When was the last time this student had a real win in their learning?”
We all need evidence to believe our effort will lead to success.
To guarantee that every student who needs extra help can receive it, there must be dedicated intervention time embedded within the school’s master schedule. This time must be designed in a way so teachers can respond collectively, and not individually in each classroom.
Great observation by my dear friend Brian Butler in his new book… “When teams of educators genuinely believe in their ability to make a difference, they invariably do.” 👊🏼
No system of interventions can make up for teaching students below grade-level in their core instruction. Additional time and support must be provided in addition to—and not in place of—access to new grade-level essential curriculum.
Loving the #clearthelists posts from everyone. Here is my list I’d love to get cleared or at least a few more things off it. Excited to begin this new year 🥰 https://t.co/ogfKam9bdq
