Hasan Piker had a heart-to-heart with his community about the power of being 'normal' with the goal of bringing people to our side. It's important to be palatable. He also talked about the dangers of gatekeeping and about why it's important to extend olive branches to those unfamiliar with leftist and socialist ideology: "It's probably unhelpful to make it even less accessible if we are feeding into the preconceived notions of what it means to be a socialist; an annoying woke-scold. I've never done that and perhaps that is a major part of the reason why this community is the size that it is. Throughout many different hinge points when this community has grown, there have always been people that have demanded a retreat over and over again. 'Why are you welcoming these new people? They are reactionary. Why are you welcoming these new people? They are ableist. Why are you welcoming these new people? They are racist and transphobic.' Some of those people we have welcomed with open arms and they have changed their minds over time. Is your goal to have the perfect safe space where no one disagrees with you? Or is your goal to build a mass movement? Purity testing, taking a morally righteous, maximalist position; these are poisonous for community development. Poisonous for organizing."
