LoS tanking has been a mechanic in MMOs dating as far back as Everquest if not further.

It's skill expression, because none of this is a bug, this all within the intended systems of play and you aren't creating unexpected states.

An exploit would be something like FiredUp in WoW with exploiting focus target casting macros to bypass mechanics.
