Tesla and SpaceX are reportedly starting with $16.8 billion, while the full-scale vision could eventually represent around $119 billion in investment.
Why build something this enormous?

Musk believes the semiconductor industry simply won't be able to manufacture enough compute for the future he is trying to build:

Instead of relying entirely on outside suppliers, the ambition is to bring much of the AI hardware stack together - chip fabrication, memory, packaging and testing at unprecedented scale.
Musk has repeatedly argued that compute will become one of AI's biggest bottlenecks.
Terafab's ultimate ambition is reportedly more than 1 terawatt of AI compute capacity per year.
Think about what that represents.
We're moving from factories that manufacture products to factories that manufacture intelligence infrastructure.
If Musk pulls this off at the scale envisioned, Terafab wouldn't simply be another Gigafactory.
It could become one of the largest industrial projects ever attempted.
The AI race isn't only about who builds the smartest model anymore.
It's becoming a race over who can build the infrastructure to power intelligence at planetary scale.

A newly disclosed Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) vulnerability, dubbed Certighost, allowed a low-privilege domain user to impersonate a Domain Controller and take over an entire Active Directory domain.
AD CS is Microsoft's public key infrastructure (PKI) system, issuing X.509 certificates used for encryption, signing, and authentication across a domain.
Certificates act like digital ID cards: a Certification Authority (CA) signs them, binding a public key to an identity that other services can trust.

Anthropic’s Claude share links appeared in public search results, raising fresh privacy concerns for users who shared sensitive conversations. A Reddit post this weekend revealed that hundreds of Claude AI shared chats were publicly discoverable through Google.
Users searching queries such as site:claude[Dot]ai/share could access conversations containing legal advice, engineering work, and personal discussions without needing direct links from the original owners.
Claude’s share feature generates public URLs so users can send conversations to others. According to the Reddit thread, those pages lacked proper noindex tags.
