Today my car key broke at ABC Parking. I googled and found a company that repairs car keys and they come to where you are in minutes and do the work right next to you. It was a Gen Z who showed up and sorted me out all within 30 minutes. We are the ones failing these young people as a Country. They are ready to take off!

.@KELINKenya is facilitating a policy writing workshop aimed at developing a comprehensive, evidence-based Kenya Prisons Service policy on Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and Lung Disease.
The policy seeks to establish legally enforceable standards for prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, continuity of care, and rights protection across Kenya’s 136 correctional facilities.
The workshop brings together key stakeholders and partners including @PrisonsKe@NTLDKenya@TBChampions_ke@PoliceKE@Kenyajudiciary@Amref_Kenya, @LVCTKe and other partners to strengthen coordinated action toward healthier correctional systems.
Mr. Benson Ulo from @Amref_Kenya and Dr. Michael Macharia from @TBChampions_ke underscored the critical role of public health interventions in addressing TB within Kenya’s prison populations.
Mr. Ulo highlighted the ongoing efforts by @Amref_Kenya to support TB management and strengthen healthcare systems within correctional facilities.
Dr. Macharia emphasized that effective TB management in prisons goes beyond protecting inmates — it safeguards communities at large, reinforcing the need for coordinated and inclusive public health responses.

“We cannot say we have eliminated TB within the general population if TB remains high within prisons.” — @wanameme
During a presentation on TB as both a public health and human rights priority, @KELINKenya’s @wanameme highlighted critical areas for consideration in addressing TB within correctional facilities, including:
☑️ Key drivers of TB transmission in prisons, such as overcrowded and poorly ventilated facilities, delayed diagnosis and limited access to healthcare, and frequent inmate transfers that disrupt continuity of care and treatment adherence.
☑️ The importance of screening and early detection to reduce transmission, deaths, and treatment costs.
☑️ Strengthening continuity of care for prison populations.
☑️ Upholding human rights and ethical standards, recognizing that prisoners are entitled to the same standard of healthcare as the general population, while safeguarding dignity, confidentiality, informed consent, and non-discrimination.

“The health of prisoners is not just a prison issue — it is a national health issue.”
These were the powerful opening remarks by Mr. Ali Athman from the Directorate of Reforms @PrisonsKe during the policy writing workshop on TB, Leprosy, and Lung Disease in correctional facilities.
He emphasized that the policy emerging from this process will not merely be a prison document, but a national framework for protecting health and rights within Kenya’s correctional system.
Dr. Tomno from @NTLDKenya echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of continuity of care for all within prison populations — including officers, children, and inmates through strengthened collaboration and collective action.
