The 250k figure comes from taking a few of the worst‑hit areas (Rotherham, Telford, Oxfordshire), turning their local child sexual exploitation (CSE) estimates into a rate, then scaling that across the whole UK.

Two big problems:
•The areas were chosen because they were already explosive outliers, not as a random sample of the country.

•The underlying stats in those reports are about all CSE, not just grooming gangs, not just “Muslim” or “Pakistani” offenders, and not just white girls.

So it is classic sampling bias and selection bias:

taking data from known hotspots and pretending it’s typical everywhere, then narrowing the interpretation to one ethnic/religious group.
