Let's assume...

0 of the 16 trifecta blue states implement it.

23 of the 23 trifecta red states would.

6 of the 11 divided-govt states would.

That gets us to 29.

How many states currently have the three requirements? 2.

And then once a state implements these requirements it'd be much harder for them to undo them and lose all that money so that 29 would likely only ever increase.

Wildest takeaways from my time at the Ballot Processing Center today.

✍🏻 Signatures only need to be 40% accurate (!) this is the setting the machines are set at for LA County (called the ASV)

🗳️ The last two drops disproportionately supported Raman. Are those coming from specific neighborhoods since they’re such an anomaly? Or are the neighborhoods pretty spread out that you count from on a given day? “We’re not sure.”

I asked them how they verify these signatures. Turns out, they simply don’t.

Well, you must check the witness signatures, right? “No, we don’t.”

There is an entire industry built on the word "pre."

Pre-diabetic. Pre-hypertensive. Pre-osteoporotic. Borderline cholesterol. Subclinical thyroid. Elevated, but not yet abnormal.

Every one of these is a way of telling a person who feels completely well that they are nearly ill. Not sick enough to be sick. Just sick enough to be monitored, medicated, and booked in for a follow-up.

A healthy person is a closed account. A person who is "pre" something is a subscription.

The beauty of the prefix is that it can never really be wrong. If you go on to develop the thing, the warning was prescient. If you never do, the intervention saved you. There is no version of events in which the label was simply a mistake.

You were well. Then someone found a number, drew a line just below where you were standing, and informed you that you were heading for the edge.
