Xabi Alonso is who Chelsea would like to lead the project, according to sources. Alonso is cautious but hasn’t said no yet. Chelsea have other options if they can’t convince him.

@Kaycool007 💙

On Monday I travelled back from University to say my goodbye and this morning I hear that he had passed peacefully in his sleep after a battle with Cancer. To those who still have their grandparents, please hold them close for me 💙

[Max @MaxFSport]

My 84 year old Grandad, lifelong Chelsea supporter, reading my latest submission in The Observer. He has been supporting my long term goals since I was young, when others around me didn’t believe in the power of social media. Only the start 🙏🔵

[Max @MaxFSport]

@elvisthemainace I’m sure @Laus1507 will bring it up in the next episode 🤣, but I don’t think he meant anything bad behind it.

[Max @MaxFSport]

Alonso shows so much conviction. No Europe will help and could be a blessing in disguise to help build the blocks this season before an important summer window could help a 27/28 title challenge.

As long as #CFC don’t sit back like Man Utd did last summer and recruit better than the CWC summer, I don’t see any reason as to why fans shouldn’t be incredibly excited again.

Early stages, and some players could be given more chances, but clear to me we are heading in the right direction.

[Max @MaxFSport]

I wasn’t too fond of Xabi saying timing was the reason why Chelsea over Liverpool, but he is representing the club well so far and hopefully over time he can truly become one of us.

[Max @MaxFSport]

@sweeneyk2012 I think he did very well today.

[Max @MaxFSport]

Everton away would be a tough game for any substitute goalkeeper to come in, let alone a 21 year old making his league debut. Mike Penders more than matched Everton’s intensity and physicality and is an exciting prospect for Chelsea. #CFC 👇🏻 https://t.co/PfEVYoWL0R

[Max @MaxFSport]

Biggest positive for Chelsea today wasn’t the goals. It was the clean sheet and the work they put into keeping that. Chelsea outworked, outfought and outduelled Everton, a side that are so good at each of those aspects under David Moyes. This performance has to be the reference point in future tough away games.

[Max @MaxFSport]

It’s only been two games but since the International break, it’s really felt like the phrase ‘Chelsea are truly building something’ is true. The hard work off ball, talent on it, and now looking more solid defensively. #CFC

[Max @MaxFSport]

Very very funny to see Manchester City fans all over X last night talking about how Enzo can’t play with Cherki and that he’s a traffic cone off the ball but he’s always going to play because of his name and price tag. It’s almost like everything I was saying about him in the summer was correct. He wouldn’t solve anything in the pivot for us and Rogers will get just as many G/A.

[Max @MaxFSport]

@Wagsvn It’s not that. It’s because he won’t sign a new deal, so in January they’ll have 18 months left of power, whereas if they sell in the summer, only 12 months.

In January it would still have to be £90m+ likely.

[Max @MaxFSport]

Alex Scott in January then? 🤩

Chelsea have the funds with the Enzo Fernandez money in the bank and Scott was the number one midfield target. Bournemouth now being open to a sale makes the path a lot easier.

As we have seen with Rogers, the fee for proven Premier League talent is largely irrelevant!

[Nizaar Kinsella @NizaarKinsella]

🚨Exclusive: Bournemouth are open to offers for Alex Scott in January under certain conditions. Decision to end not for sale stance came after talks with Scott's representatives. Liverpool and Chelsea are among the potential suitors.

@1manny_fs Yeah. Henderson said it on an interview to Sky.

[Max @MaxFSport]

Cole Palmer said to Henderson ‘Which corner are we celebrating in?’ before the veteran curled into the top corner to make it 5-1 today.

Experienced players bring confidence to those around them.

Some comments on each player from today’s match 👇🏻 #CFC https://t.co/zPLoB6jl8r

[Max @MaxFSport]

@KashmiriLegend He’s been first time hoofing it most of the first half lol.

[Max @MaxFSport]

Jordan Henderson a lot better than everyone expected. Credit to him. Do think sometimes he could be more composed on the ball but him and Caicedo are forming a much better partnership than anything seen this season.

[Max @MaxFSport]

@CalvinChaba Some things are best left alone to not cause a stir or panic.

[Max @MaxFSport]

This is another important pay rise for Palmer and signals financial ambition from Chelsea. Had heard whispers towards the back end of last season he would consider a move. Important show of faith toward Alonso from Palmer, too.

🚨 EXCL: Cole Palmer strengthens commitment to Chelsea by signing new contract until 2034. Adds 1yr to previous deal on improved terms; recognition of importance to #CFC. Continues drive to extend key men after James, Caicedo, Pedro & Neto @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/fs4JMIT1IC

[Max @MaxFSport]

The back 3 at one stage consisted of Colwill, Fofana and Gusto at RCB. Emegha and Palestra also played, alongside the likes of Welbeck, Henderson, Chavarria.

[Kieran Gill @kierangill_DM]

New: Moises Caicedo played a part in the first half of Chelsea’s behind-closed-doors friendly vs Championship Portsmouth on Saturday 🔵
