Sir Charles Mackerras was born 100 years ago today. Quite simply he was the greatest musician I ever worked with, and his ideas of making music influenced every note I sing, and singer I teach. This photo is from Vixen rehearsals at @rbo_org in 2010, just weeks before he died.
That was really rather special, I suspect one to say "I was there!" World class playing and singing from all involved. @SCOmusic@edintfest 😍🎶 #LaClemenzaDiTito
“Eterni Dei, vegliate
Sui sacri giorni suoi,
A Roma in lui serbate
La sua felicità.”
— a marvellous, beautifully sung, performance of Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito @edintfest this evening. #EdIntFest
Charles Mackerras
The Greatest conductor who ever lived (imho), everything he touches is magical.
Believing one can make music without being self indulgent and therefore exciting..surely that’s the key to it all..
Just listen to his Beethoven. Perfection for me..
Hear BSO principal clarinet William R. Hudgins' beautiful cadenza resonate throughout #SymphonyhallBoston from our recent performances of Copland's Clarinet Concerto (9/26-28).
It’s been a week of clarinet heaven✨. Last chance to hear our Eine kleine Nachtmusik programme (ft. Krommer Concerto No 1 for clarinet) in Glasgow tonight!

A terrific afternoon to launch our brand new Cumnock Tryst Ensemble today at @Dumfries_House! Great to have so many composers in one room, and a fantastic showcase of (mostly!) contemporary music from skilled musicians.
