As a former KC-135R pilot, this tragedy really hits close. By the looks of this photo, we almost lost lost two aircraft and crews. The aircrew did a fantastic job getting this one back on the ground safely. May the Warriors of the fallen KC-135 RIP, praying for their family and friends.

BREAKING: A closer look of the partially sliced-off tail of a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker involved in yesterday’s mid-air collision over Iraq. Despite the severe damage, the tanker managed to land safely in Tel Aviv.

A second aircraft involved in the accident crashed in western Iraq, and the fate of its six crew members remains unknown as rescue efforts continue.

United States Central Command says the collision occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury. Officials confirmed the incident was not caused by hostile fire or friendly fire.

I very much doubt a pilot would get so close as to hit the vertical stabiliser like this.

Rescue operations are under way after a USAF KC-135 aircraft crashed in western Iraq, US Central Command (Centcom) has said.

Neither hostile nor friendly fire were involved in the downing of the KC-135, which occurred over western Iraq, Centcom said. The status of the plane's crew is currently unclear.

The tanker had been involved in ongoing US operations against Iran, and was one of two aircraft involved in the incident, the military command unit said. The second landed safely, it added.

Centcom described the crash as happening over friendly airspace, but this is a region of Iraq where pro-Iranian militias operate. Iran's military claimed on state TV that an allied group had targeted the plane with a missile.
