@woodwardsports He is just behind the curtain. Illitch views him as trusted family and Yzerman has his ear…so he is still very much a part of this orginization and how they approach the Larkin situation.
@woodwardsports Yzerman’s new role isn’t senior vice president, a common corporate role when someone is stepping aside. It’s senior advisor to the owner…something I have never seen before. In other words he just went from Underboss to Consigliere to Don Illitch. He isn’t gone…
@donotconsidery1 To a large extent, Mr. I is to blame for chasing the playoff streak when the writing was on the wall they couldn’t compete for the cup and needed to let some assets go….
@Nixie_North@TSN_Sports People also forget Steve left the TB position voluntarily with time left on his contract to come back home and try to fix the mess left by Holland and Mr. I. I doubt the family forgets and will ever leave him out to dry…this was Mr. Yzerman’s decision.
@Nixie_North@TSN_Sports Mike Illitch viewed Stevie Y as a son. Chris views him like a brother. And Mrs. I adores him and she is still alive. He will be involved in all major decisions…he just got promoted out of the position. Your take is not unreasonable but this is a unique set of circumstances.
@spittinchiclets Yzerman is not “gone”. He only had a year left on his contract and sees the team will need to go backwards a few years. He will be involved in all decisions..he just won’t be the “face.”. He is now consigliere to the owner, who will defer to his legacy and knowledge.
@ErikHanson2@FriedgeHNIC Wrong. Yzerman’s call. Anyone who knows his relationship with the family (Mike viewed him as a son) knows it was his call. By the way, he isn’t “gone”…he just isn’t the “face”.
@reporterchris@m_bultman So as “senior advisor” to the owner, who views him like a brother, he isn’t going to be reviewing and approving any and every possible GM? Sounds like he will still be pulling the strings behind the curtain but got sick of hearing the fans bash him and blaming the “Yzerplan”….
@imDazzer@WingRaider The year the Wings were the worst team by FAR they got pick 4….the Wings have had the worst draft luck. San Jose will be dominant…not because their GM is a genius, but the luck of so many top 2 picks…
@CoachBGonzo Yzerman isn’t at risk…not even a little. He is considered FAMILY by the Illitch family. Worst case scenario is he is promoted up. Not saying it’s right or fair, but that is the situation.
