I've tried to approach this election unflinchingly & w/ clear eyes, but this is the absolute worst case scenario.
We're in an epochal shift in American history of the worst sort, &, while it does not spell the absolute end of Amer liberal democracy, MAGA is a fatal illness. 1/
Amazed at this very informative real-time depiction of Metro Manila's hazard level under #CarinaPH courtesy of UPRI-UP NOAH: https://t.co/3feSSBohZ1.
Remember, it was Rodrigo Duterte who shut down Project NOAH began by the Aquino III admin. Thankfully UP took it under its wing.
The General Assembly just passed a Resolution to upgrade Palestine's privileges at the United Nations. 143 member states voted in favor.
A few quick facts about what this means. 👇🧵 (1/7)

"He brought technocrats back into government, steadied the post-pandemic economy, and elevated the Philippines on the world stage."
1) Technocrats never left.
2) Pandemic scars on economy now permanent.
3) Investors still shun PH (and go to Vietnam etc).

A flurry of statements from China and former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte following the trilateral summit between the Philippines, US, and Japan -

Duterte has acknowledged he verbally agreed to “keep the status quo” in the South China Sea, which he says includes not ferrying construction materials to the BRP Sierra Madre, the naval ship that serves as the Philippines’ outpost in the Second Thomas Shoal (Ayungin Shoal).
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. describes the agreement as “secret”. He says his administration was not informed of such a deal, and that Duterte must be held accountable.

INTERNATIONAL UPDATE: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vows to shut down Qatari-funded news outlet Al Jazeera. This statement follows the Israeli parliament’s approval on Monday of a sweeping law that allows the government to ban foreign networks considered to be “threats to national security.”
In response, Al Jazeera has released a press statement condemning Netanyahu’s statements as “lies.” The network also declared that the new legislation is yet another effort toward press censorship after numerous incidents of killings, intimidation, and harassment of its employees and facilities in the West Bank.
Rights groups such as the Committee to Protect Journalists have slammed the new legislation and its implications on press freedom. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also called the move “concerning,” stating that the United States "supports the critically important work journalists around the world do."
As of March, over 31,000 casualties have been recorded: The Palestinian death toll stands at 30,228 while Israel’s stands at 1,410. 94 journalists and over 136 United Nations aid workers have also been killed.

The bill’s counterpart in the Senate, RBH No. 6, has not yet been approved at the subcommittee level. Nevertheless, House leadership has proposed that RBH No. 7 be already brought to the Commission on Elections for ratification via plebiscite.
RBH No. 7 was approved through a 288-8-2 vote of affirmative, negative, and abstaining solons, respectively.

Good on ABC to expose how the Marcos team tried to shut down the interview. I can attest, based on personal experience, that they try to control press conferences and interviews, and journalists who insist get blocked or denied access, making it extremely difficult to work.
ABC News Australia journalist Sarah Ferguson reveals what happened behind the scenes of her recent interview with the dictator’s son, particularly when she brought up martial law. His team tried to stop the interview.
