One of the coolest facts from Helm's Deep is that the moment when the Uruk-hai start pounding their spears into the ground was inspired by the stuntmen!

Filming took place in freezing temperatures, so the performers slammed their spears into the ground to stay warm between takes. Second-unit director John Mahaffie saw them one night and suggested Peter Jackson incorporate it into the film.
