This couple have been standing outside their home on Lady Margaret Road in Southall, handing out cold water to drivers passing in the heat.

No fuss, no reason, just looking out for people. In a week where West London’s had floods, road chaos and everything in between, it’s the small kind gestures like this that remind you how good this community really is.

People like this are the heart of Southall ❤️

Passenger next to my seat spent the whole 8 hour train journey eating and throwing all the leftovers under the seat. Dustbin was right outside. Later, when everyone was trying to sleep, he started playing videos loudly.

Wanted to teach him a lesson in civic sense, but I stopped myself because getting home safely is more important than teaching a random stranger morality. I have a family, goals, and plans for the future. You need to be practical. You can't change the whole country. If you confront these people, they won't learn or acknowledge their mistake. Instead, they'll start a fight and can turn violent.

Mumbai local train incident is one example. Man asked someone to close the door because of the rain and ended up losing his life to a person carrying a knife.

Reality is, civic sense can only be taught where people are willing to listen, in a moral society. Smartest choice is to stay invisible, earn more and build a life where you move up the economic ladder so you and your family can have safer spaces to avoid such people.

This man pulled out his phone to film himself blocking an 80 year old woman from using the handrail on a busy station staircase, then claimed he was “just relaxing.”

When did basic respect for older people become optional?

I remember when people went out of their way to help the elderly. Now some won't even step aside when politely asked.

Abolishing this nonsense will have so many cascading good effects, for every generation.

Allowing for much more desired relocation and reallocation. Older people downsizing without the penalty. More young couples getting their first home.

Then the huge multiplier effects in fitting out those new homes, great for local businesses and trades large and small. If there ever were a single tax to abolish above all others, it’s this one.

Instead we’re killing the economy with this tax and many others like it, only to piss away all they collect on a ballooning benefits bill.
