I’m in my final year of the Early Years Masters with CREC. I am researching the vocal health of EY practitioners (children 0-7 years old). Musicians and all-rounders. If interested, please complete my questionnaire. Link is: https://t.co/jqWMVcbC2n #CREC#earlyyears
It is not okay for a DfE funded website to list an incorrect set of 'subjects' for #EYFS. The *areas of learning* are set out in the *Statutory Framework*. Please retweet if you would like @OakNational to correct this.
What an incredible thing @WAbbeyChoir@ChapelRoyalHCP James O’Donnell & Peter Holder are doing today. Perfectly judged music to reflect & absorb the grief of a nation. Let us never take for granted the professionalism & fearlessness of our musicians.
Music.👏 Is.👏 Important. We do it so well in this country, and today has proven that in spades, but it starts in schools. We need more music in schools, and to value it more in education. Sublime music making from @wabbey Choir and the Choir of the Chapel Royal today. Bravo all.
No-one watching the Queen's funeral can fail to have been moved by the power of #music and the skill of the performers and composers.
Can we now please stop treating music as an optional extra in UK music education?
Told you can’t sing? Nonsense. Told music isn’t for you? Nonsense. Told it’s too late to learn an instrument? Nonsense. It’s all nonsense. You can sing, music is for you, it’s never too late to learn an instrument, and your love of music is yours. Anything else is nonsense.
Why do pupils tend to gravitate towards the Music Department before, during, and after school? Because it’s their physical, mental, and emotional safe space. Music helps them connect with others, and express themselves, in such a unique way. Music nurtures health and well-being.
'Music is an indispensable part of universal human knowledge. He who lacks it has a faulty knowledge. A man without music in incomplete. So it is obvious that music should be a school subject. It is essential' (Kodaly)
The Music Department is an alternate universe where pupils are often unrecognisable from who they are outside of it. The shy become confident. The agitated become calm. The lonely become included. The quiet become heard. And the lost become found. Music reveals the real child.
Happy New Year from everyone at the BKA!! 🎉🎉🎉Thinking about setting some New Year Resolutions? We recommend more singing, lots more singing and all the singing! 🎶😊
As the new term of 2022 begins, perhaps this is something that should be considered now more than ever. Music should never be seen as an "add-on" - it should and can be central to education.
