@JVA_writes Great post that hits home like a ten-ton truck. Queried at 178k last year, cut it down to 142k and queried again this year, and it's such a struggle. I know I should cut further to ~120k but at some point the story just snaps in two.
Not to mention the SFF trends right now.

@NathanJonesBook I haven't seen _all_ of them (but most), but this feels kinda similar. I wouldn't consider myself a fan, and don't really care what direction they go.
Most of the movies are just easy to consume entertainment that is well produced, and keeps you up-to-date with discourse.

@AdkinsMary Always listening to something, depending a bit on what I am writing. When I have a very specific idea, I listen to songs that help me tune in to the vibe.
When writing something more explorative, I like to listen to stuff without words to not get distracted from my own words.

@lindberg_rich Especially when writing fantasy I want to set the scene without having to introduce something as a flashback later on. I try to keep it short and relevant for understanding the MC or the world.
Could be the MC as a child, if the book itself has them only as an adult.

@lilwritinwonder I find the middle tricky too. Often I have the very beginning mapped out in my head with extreme detail, and I know the general ending. But getting from A to Z is difficult, not to mention the even more difficult M to N (aka the middle of the middle).

@arkiejesswrites I never write whole chapters like that, but I do get the overwhelming urge to take notes on ideas in the middle of doing something else. Sometimes I'll write down a particularly nice sounding line of paragraph, but that's about it.

@authormattoz Same thing happens to me. I've had several shower revelations regarding tricky bits of plot I've had problems solving. And just like that, solved!
