The Trump administration this week proposed opening nearly 45 million acres of national forest land to roads and logging as part of its broader push to boost timber production. The announcement comes as a yearlong investigation reveals how California forests are already being managed to grow more timber using a controversial herbicide being sprayed at record levels by timber companies and the U.S. Forest Service.

Alley Cat Allies strongly opposes a feeding ban targeting community cats in Ripon, California ‼️

If it passes, community cat caregivers could be issued a $100 fine simply for providing care. We have reached out to the City of Ripon to offer our support for a better way forward: TNR.

Feeding bans do not work:

🔴 Cutting off access to food sources that cats have become accustomed to is cruel and causes suffering.
🔴 The cats will not simply go away. They are highly bonded to their outdoor homes. Instead, they roam further and seek out other sources of food.
🔴 People will be penalized for their compassion and discouraged from carrying out TNR, which relies on organized feeding.

TNR is the only humane and effective approach to stabilizing community cat populations. That's what Ripon officials, and officials worldwide, need to know.

The best way to protect your family in the event of disaster is to stay prepared. You should always evacuate with your indoor animals, and that means having the right supplies in place to do so quickly and efficiently!

Each cat will ideally have their own crate or carrier. And, just in case, have copies of their veterinary and microchip ID records. From there, you can ensure you have an emergency supply of 3 to 7 days' worth of cat food and water. Check and replace supplies as needed.
