Couldn't finish the quest on stream but I'm glad I did it solo so I wouldn't rush. Just brilliant. There's a special magic to a mammoth quest capping off a story that began two decades ago, picking up the scraps of a story and characters whose beginning was written in a completely different time by people with vastly different ideas of where their game was going to go.
A Resident Evil-inspired multi-puzzle gauntlet followed by a stealth section, an homage to temple trekking and several engaging minibosses followed by far-and-away the best quest boss in the game bar none. The atmosphere and tactile dodging needed to beat Drakan was such a joy even if it was incredibly challenging, it felt on par with something out of a From Software game in narrative and fight design and beyond.
Something I love about these continuations is revisiting locations added to the game in the early 2000s before seeing newer areas designed in the style of those old locations. You can feel so strongly how dedicated the design team are to maintaining the feel of Old School while still pushing what's possible within such a restrictive style, just like how Lowerniel's fight pushes what's possible with combat mechanics. A genuine 10/10 for me. I love this game.
