The most disastrous consequence of American globalism was Europeans saying โyโallโ and โainโtโ. Its like seeing a dog hold a spoon. Very unusual and very scary.
Seems like a prong of the new AIPAC strategy is donating to shitcoat candidates and prop up spoilers, rather than solely donating to the candidates most supportive of Israel. And it's going to take a while for the discernment to tell the difference to be widespread.
I'm pleased to invite @Wemby to our second Commission on Government Efficiency hearing on Wednesday June 10th 5-8pm, where we'll be asking the public for their thoughts on how government can run better. Would love to have you there for the whole time!
Itโs not a โsingle issueโ argument nor is it delusional to say that Tom Steyer (who I reluctantly voted for) should have run a more explicitly anti-israel campaign esp given that many of his positions (abolishing ICE/taxing billionaires/banning corporate PAC money from state elections) are otherwise consistent with progressive + leftist values.
This election saw just a 17% voter turnout (gen z marginally included) bc many young voters โ-who have told our candidates time and time againโ they are undecided because they refuse to support candidates who have been barely there on the Gaza genocide and on the ~$610 million in federal tax dollars paid by Californians that go to israel each year.
The governor does NOT control federal tax policy but is it really unreasonable for voters to want leaders whose values align with their own? Why is it taking so long for the Democratic Party to recognize that for many young voters a candidateโs position on Palestine (which gen z has voiced as their litmus test) has become THE KEY FACTOR in how they vote?
We saw it with both Mamdani and Talarico. It is NOT DELUSIONAL for voters to expect candidates to speak clearly about Palestine esp when those candidates are not backed by super PACs.
Our elected officials help shape the political consensus and thatโs why we vote for them regardless of how much material power they hold. The more of them we have in public office willing to say no to unconditional support for israel in the country that enables it most the closer we get to holding the Epstein class accountable and freeing Palestine.
