having to tell an already fragile senior that the district 15-day dropped her, 1 month after having her baby, due to a piece of paper we cannot get signed (HIPAA + bureaucracy), is what has finally broken me.
These middle schoolers realized there was no kids' book about composer Florence Price — the first Black woman to have her music played by a major U.S. orchestra.
So they wrote, illustrated and published their own book. It's available in stores now.

@tyLanasaurusrex A5: I will be looking for a school that values diversity and is inclusive! I want to work in a school where they are using tech to make students lives easier and I would hope the school provides tech for its students! #ci5307 @MrLostetter
@tyLanasaurusrex A4: I think one account everyone should follow is @ClassTechTips I was drawn to their account because I am always interested in finding new ways to include technology into the classroom. #ci5307 @MrLostetter
@SheridanLibby@tyLanasaurusrex @MrLostetter yes! accessibility is so important and I think part of that is having good public wifi since some students may not have access to that at home.
@tyLanasaurusrex A3: I think that technology allows us to find and provide more representation in our classrooms. Say you have a very diverse classroom, but your books are centered around white heteronormative narratives, then tech allows you to find and show more diversity.
@tyLanasaurusrex@CAST_UDL A2: I would use technology to give students the choice of platforms to use. Instead of writing a discussion post, maybe they make a flipgrid/jamboard post instead. I think giving students choices help with creativity and encourages all different kinds of learning. #CI5307#pstpln
@tyLanasaurusrex A1. Hi my name is Maya West. My experience as a K-12 student involved a lot of different aspects of spanish and the cultures that come with it since I went to a Spanish Immersion school. I'm so grateful for it! #ci5307 @MrLostetter
