@jasonmwynne It is certainly how it is sold. The problem is is that it also goes against our conscience. I knew intuitively that the practice was wrong, that it made things worse, and only the weak would crawl back. So I questioned myself because to do otherwise would be to question God.

@jasonmwynne Well from the average JW perspective it is all about reward and punishment, now and later, but most importantly now as doled out by elders. The average JW doesn’t interpret, they take what they’re told hook, line and sinker.

@jasonmwynne Regarding your shunning question, I am not sure how it fits with the latter. If you are convinced that it is true that God wants you to shun, then you do it. But when your eyes are finally opened, and that nagging feeling turns out to be right, you would never ever do it again.

@jasonmwynne In my case it was the latter. I was searching for truth at a young age and the Bible never entered the equation until I spoke with JW’s. However, for people like me, it is this same love for truth that have led me away from the org as it clearly follows humans and not God.

@aliciawhatsgood Most atheists I know are honest people who couldn’t tolerate the hypocrisy they saw in religion. While I believe that the thinking is backwards - condemning a concept because of the people who profess it - I admire the honesty in the position.
