When I was a child in South Africa, we used imperial measurements. In the 1960s, we changed to the metric system. When I moved to Canada, we used the metric system which is mainly used for research in nutritional science publications. When I moved to America, I had to relearn imperial measurements for my dietetics practice. However, many of my patients were from other countries, so it was helpful to know both measurements.
