Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in our nation, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
It's a moment to reflect on our country's history, honor the legacies of those whose shoulders we stand upon, and continue the work advancing justice and equity in our city and throughout our nation.
We've officially crowned Ms. Senior DC 2026, Betty Entzminger. 👑
Betty is a shining example of what makes our senior community in DC so special—grace, wisdom, and a deep love for the best city in the world.
Congratulations, Ms. Senior DC 2026!
School is out for DCPS!

Today, we welcomed 10 Beverly Pepper sculptures to the expanded New York Avenue Sculpture Corridor.
This outdoor gallery is a great contribution to our culture, our economy, and our world-class art scene—and it's yet another great reason to visit Downtown DC.
Summer break for DCPS starts tomorrow, and we're offering a full range of engaging opportunities for young people:
•Late Night Hype
•DPR x Washington Wizards Basketball Clinic
•Jazz in the Park

Last day of school for DCPS!
Ending the year as #1 for post-pandemic academic recovery, fastest improving urban school district, and top starting teacher pay in the nation.
Thank you to our teachers, staff, families, and students for making it another A+ school year.
Reminder: In observance of Juneteenth, DC Government services and office hours will be modified on Friday, June 19.

We opened a new DC animal adoption center in Ward 5 last week.
Adoption fees are being waived at Brandywine's new Ivy City and existing DC Village locations now through Sunday, June 21!
On this day 9 years ago, we opened the modernized Kenilworth Recreation Center.
A $17 million investment in Ward 7 and the first DPR center to have a bicycle repair station and an electric vehicle charging station—today, Kenilworth serves as a community hub for our young people.
Thank you, Washington, DC.
As the votes are being counted, I want to thank the voters, election workers, volunteers, and everyone who participated in our democratic process. Our democracy is strongest when people make their voices heard.
Serving as your Mayor has been the honor of my life, and I remain focused on the work ahead. Together, we have navigated challenges, seized opportunities, and built a stronger, more resilient DC.
I congratulate the candidates and wish them the very best. As I prepare to pass the torch in January, my Administration is committed to running through the tape.
Thank you for the trust you have placed in me and for your unwavering belief in our city.
We've just named our Interim DCPS Chancellor, Dr. Kim Jackson.
A member of the DCPS team since 2012, Principal of the Year in 2015, and most recently Chief of Schools—Dr. Jackson has a proven record of collaboration, leadership, and success in our school communities.
We are proud to have another lifelong educator at the helm of DCPS. Congratulations, Dr. Jackson!
Just like all Washingtonians, I'm voting for the things that I think are important for the city and for my own family.
DC, I encourage you to go out and vote in today’s primary election!
