1. A survey on Malaysian doctors conducted by MMA finds that 30-40% of doctors across all states, from both public and private healthcare, are experiencing some form of bullying.

Jamaludin Jarjis family feud to inherite RM2.2 bil wealth is a good time to talk about the reintroduction of the Wealth and Inheritance Tax in Malaysia. (For the purpose of this tweet, I’m going to ignore how the deceased accumulated such wealth in the first place).

Widen the tax base and start taxing on capital, not just on labour.

Prior to the abolition of this tax in 1991, estate duty was applicable only if the net worth of the estate exceeded RM2 million. Rates then were 5% to 10%.

For comparison… here are top-end of inheritance tax rates globally:
Japan 55%
South Korea 50%
France 45%
United Kingdom 40%
United States 40%

If reintroduction of GST is unavoidable, surely the reintroduction inheritance tax is unavoidable too?
