@WedgeJ@Kristi_Pfl Yes! This is amazing and simple to teach students! J at the end? Must be -dge. Simple things to teach, but it needs to be explicit modeling.
@Kristi_Pfl A8: one of the most surprising things I found was that the short o sound has so many variations! Saw, on, thought. Same sound but many ways to spell it!!!
@Kristi_Pfl A7: These rules are the building blocks of understanding encoding! As an upper ES teacher I have been reinforcing these rules while teaching and writing. Modeling these rules in real scenarios will be sure students are practicing these skills IRL! #PISDMTSS
@Kristi_Pfl A6: Knowing the difference between the 2 is the building blocks for both encoding and decoding words. When students understand syllables in addition to those they will be life long readers and spellers. #PISDMTSS
@Kristi_Pfl A5:Something that surprised me was table 3 and the ease of putting all the aids in one spot. I am one of those people that depends spell check and these aids are so helpful! #PISDMTSS
@Kristi_Pfl A2:The one thing that resonated with me is the ch digraph. I have been teaching that it is pronounced 1 was when in fact it can be pronounced 3 different ways. I need to understand why it makes the ch sound before all my students get stuck. #PISDMTSS
@GloriaLuevano4@Kristi_Pfl I totally agree! My first year teaching 3rd I assumed that students knew these the basics. Now I know that I need to start slow and and reteach to help them succeed!
@Kristi_Pfl A3: I would give myself a 4 because most of the times I teach myself the skill before I teach my students. I watch videos, read articles and just try to be better than the person who taught me phonics. But I am trying harder than ever to engrain these skills! #PISDMTSS
@Kristi_Pfl A2: The problem that resonates with me is that we have 26 letters and 75 phonograms. In 3rd I am still hearing students sound out the w and h in the digraph wh. I have shifted my mindset to spiraling basic phonemic skills. Students need foundation! #PISDMTSS
@Kristi_Pfl A1: For me finding the why allows me to pass on the why. Students want to learn and having them understand the rules of spelling and reading allows me to gift them with the know how. #PISDMTSS
@PISD_RISE A8: A great way to support your admins is to support your campus. Volunteering for campus events is an easy way to show your support. It is chance for students to see their teachers/admin out of the classroom and improve the climate and overall culture on campus. #pisdRISEchat
@PISD_RISE A9: One trait that I feel gets over looked is staying inspired. Seeing veteran teachers who remain inspired and continue to learn new things for their classroom is inspiring. These types of teachers always seem to think of students first. #pisdRISEchat
