That Nigeriaโs unpopular president is not quaking in his suede loafers ahead of the next election says less about him and more about the countryโs complicated electoral dynamics https://t.co/XYQ9LVOye3
Dear @ARISEtv, @OjyOkpe, @R_abati1990, @ruffydfire
Since my name was mentioned in this clip, I have chosen to exercise a public #RightOfReply.
I owe you that much.
Let me be clear from the start: I will not back down on this issue of the casualisation of judicial standards by a confederacy of disclosed & traceable insider & political interests on all sides.
Among my people, there is a name & a saying: "onyemaechi" (Who knows tomorrow)?
I bet @R_abati1990 had not read Rule 12 of @njcnig's Judicial #CodeOfConduct before this session. I will encourage him to acquaint himself with it, pls.
It is tragic when people who should know better venture into the enterprise of banalising serious issues at the heart of the justice system & its integrity. Yet, we are the first to complain about insecurity & we seem blissfully unaware of the inherent logics of #CauseAndEffect.
But I guess it is the judges who have created this mess. And folks think we must be automatonscat the mercy of untheorised & self-serving rulings.
I refuse.
This is the same country in which Zainab Bulkachuwa - then serving as president of @NGCourtofAppeal in 2019 - thought it was alright for her to preside over the presidential election petition when her husband had just been elected a senator on the ticket of the party whose victory was at issue in the petition. At least one of her sons so ran on the ticket of the party in the same election.
Mind you, @SupremeCourtNg had ruled in 2007 that it is parties, not candidates, who run for office in #Nigeria. Yet, Justices of Appeal under her turned in a ruling that said it was kosher for her to do so.
In the end public opinion forced her off the panel but at the price of exorbitantly corrosive jurisprudence.
Contrary to the claim by @R_abati1990 in this outing, it does not need an imputation on the judge for him or her to be recused. The standard is not actual or active lack of impartiality. It is appearance of lack of impartiality.
Let me explain.
Lord Hewart said as much in R v. Sussex Justices, ex parte McCarthy (1924) that "the answer to that question depends not upon what actually was done but upon what might appear to be done." That was why he laid down the standard that justice must not only be done but must be "manifestly & undoubtedly be seen to be done."
That is the standard at both common law & under the Constitution.
With profound respect, I regret to say that @R_abati1990 has misled the public as to the applicable standard & his claims about that are not particularly well founded.
It is no accident, therefore, that he ended up in an entirely convenient destination with no guardrails in either principle or judicial ethics. But judicial decision-making is not dance-music nor situational ethics like he suggests. It is a bounded enterprise constrained by easily ascertained rules. That was why I cited the case of Justice Anthony Aniagolu in 1983. His son is one of your colleagues, @charlesaniagolu.
The fact that one has to even argue that Sylvanus Oriji cannot preside over this case is itself the problem. I spare you all the details of his relationships with the Wikes but if I am required to I will. This should be a scandal ordinarily. But we seem to have lost every sense of indignation.
Privately, I must say, several senior judges have told me they are scandalized. For the sake of the judiciary, the Chief Justice knows what to do.
To my brother, @R_abati1990, we can continue to pretend about these casualisations until we are at the receiving end.
All you need do is look at what is happening to a former governor of Kaduna State at the moment & you see the point. Today, we may feel unaffected. Tomorrow may be different.
To my brother, @R_abati1990, I say: "onyemaechi"?!
โtinubu, na 20k u dey give Remi to take cook stew on Sunday?
Seyi tinubu, na 20k ur mama take dey cook pot of stew for you?
God go punish everybody weh join hands together to increase fuel price in Nigeria, I worked as a Bolt man , indrive and Uber throughout d night and I got 65k , after all the expenses I have about 20k on meโฆ.โ

โPeter Obi said heโs ready to give you better life, but you said no, that heโs not your tribe, even though youโre finding it very difficult to eat daily meal. All the loan apps know you as customer, you refused to pay them back, many of you have turned to beggars on social media, online and offline, tribalism has finished you allโ

Efulefu @realdaveumahi , very soon, the clouds that makes you blind will be gone and you'll see clearly again. For now, you're blinded by bitterness, envy, greed and selfishness. Very unfortunate and shameful!
Dear Dave Umahi, this is you here after the APC primaries complaining about the outcome of the election. In fact you said you begged the Igbo delegates to vote for only Igbo candidates and in that way, they would have made a statement.
You continued by saying that they all sold out and didn't vote as you told them to. You concluded by saying that " HE WHO SELLS HIS BROTHER OR SISTER THAT EVEN THE BUYERS WILL NOT TRUST HIM OR HER" and that it's a SHAME.
Sir, is this not exactly what you are doing to your brother Mr. Peter Obi? You are even encouraging Ebonyi people not to vote for Peter Obi.
So currently, you are also selling your brother Peter Obi and according to your own words, even those you are selling him to WILL DEFINITELY NOT TRUST YOU!
A gbacha oso a guo mile!
@realdaveumahi, "he who sold his brother, even the criminal buyers won't trust him" You're busy selling hatred and seed of discord among Ebonyi people and other South Easterners just to please your Emiloko papa. You'll surely reap this evil seed you're planting. Mark it!

This is Kuna Nwankwo doing the needful but all Okocha can do is to advertise betting company to the youth and to jump from one podcast to another telling us that CR7 CRISTIANO RONALDO is like Halaand..
We no suppose forgive Okocha for what he said ๐ค๐ ๐ป
The richest man in africa does not even drive a rolls-royce, nigerians are dy!ng of hunger but our president owns a fleet of luxurious cars, how did we get here?

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, told PREMIUM TIMES that Peter Obi was duly admitted to study Philosophy in 1980. The university also authenticated the degree certificate examined by PREMIUM TIMES, confirming that he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Second Class Honours (Lower Division), in 1984.

It's like you're cursed if you don't talk about @PeterObi everyday of your miserable life ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ. We all know that your greatest undoing (including your papa & his cohorts) is his emergence on the presidential ballot since 2023. It's a shame!
Headlines don't lie like Peter Obi lies, recklessly. His poor sports record as governor is well documented in the archives. Today, he talks, very glibly, of course, about the need for the FG to invest in sport, when, as governor for 8 years, he treated Anambra sportsmen and women and even, unconscionably, the physically challenged sportsmen and women shabbily.
The same way you were spreading rumours while in opposition. Refused and fought fuel subsidy removal. Called president Jonathan all sorts of names to push your evil ambitions. Very unfortunate and sad!
