@uptonaccounting Thank you for sharing your struggle out loud so others can support you. People truly underestimate the power of depression. But you're stronger!! I saw something yesterday that said "stick arrive for another sunrise". There's always hope!!
@DrBradJohnson This is a hill I will die on: We have to support the mental wellness of parents, teachers & admin before this problem will improve. They're doing their best with what they have/know (money, resources, training, experience) but it's not enough. Trauma breeds trauma!
@aliciaandrz My daughter told her "Well she's not wrong and you're being unkind." And she went to find other friends to play with. That was 3rd or 4th grade. I wish I had an ounce of that confidence at that age.
@aliciaandrz During a playground girl spat, my daughter tried to help 2 friends talk it out & said "My mom said we talk about what's wrong & move on. But we don't treat each other like that!" The girl responded with "First of all, I don't care what your mom said ..."
@LuizaJarovsky@travisakers An "incident" has caused our schools to take the network and all technology down for two weeks. They're teaching cursive during middle school keyboard class! It's been an interesting turn of events.
@Theholisticpsyc After experiencing almost every one of these, I've worked so hard to let my daughter shine in her very own way. It has been so healing to see her grow and be the mom I never had.
@VictoriaTheTech It appears to be sponsored by NEA but you could support through many 501 (3)(c) orgs such as the United Way, Little Free Library and Literacy Empowerment Foundation (just listed a few).
When principals talk about the importance of teachers supporting and encouraging their students, it’s important to remember that’s exactly what THEY should be doing for their teachers.
My staff have a budget to spend on wellness each month. It could be their gym membership, meditation apps, massages, whatever they want.
I just got receipts from one girl and she’s used part of her budget to go to the zoo and feed the animals. $120 on goat pellets. I love her.
the best way to encourage students to resist the temptation of ChatGPT is to help them feel like real writers & take pride in their voice. I tell my students to start writing “morning pages”—three handwritten pages on anything they want to write about. I tell them to transcribe themselves talking on the phone about their paper ideas to someone. I tell them to read their work out loud & hear how they sound—& if they like how they sound. I tell them to pick unique sign offs for emails (down with “Best”). I tell them to read their social media posts & text messages & to analyze them for voice—their tone, their use of internal punctuation, their humor. I encourage them instead of police them. I make a case for writing as an art they should try to master.
@VictoriaTheTech I truly have to wonder how many parents have never seen an example, day in and day out, of what great parenting looks like. They're really just doing the best they can. I think we need to take the education up a level to the parents and make it welcoming and accessible.
@VictoriaTheTech As a mom and prior educator, I understand this. But what I think we vastly underestimate are the number of parents that are prepared (knowingly or unknowingly and financially or emotionally) to parent their kids without additional resources.
The homeowner saw on the security camera that a bear was playing on the outdoor swing every day, but couldn't get on.
So he had a bigger swing built, and this was the result.
