H.E. President Jacob Zuma, speaking at the Gala Dinner, addressed issues of internal jostling and fighting, and urged leaders and members of the MK Party to unite around a common cause, the final phase of the liberation of our people, which is to take total power.

The Gala Dinner was hosted by the “Do or Die” leadership following the successful uMkhonto weSizwe Party's Annual Youth Golf Development event at the Royal Durban Golf Club.

It was also attended by the National Officials, the KZN Provincial Convenor, Members of Parliament and the Provincial Legislature, the MKYL President, and the MKSM SG.

Two of the key principles and values of uMKhonto weSizwe as contained in the Constitution is 1) HONESTY AND RESPECT and 2) DEMOCRATIC CENTRALISM.

HONESTY AND RESPECT demands that as disciplined members of uMKhonto weSizwe, WE “must be honest at all times and must avoid making commitments on things they cannot fulfil. Members must necessarily fulfil all the commitments they make to the people. The guiding principle for all MKP members and Public Representatives will be what Amilcar Carbral said: “hide nothing from the masses of our people. Tell no lies. Expose lies whenever they are told. Mask no difficulties, mistakes, failures. Claim no easy victories”. RESPECT demands that all members of the MKP must respectfully raise their political views in and outside of the organisation and must engage political opponents with robustness, clarity of thoughts and respect. No member of the MKP will be allowed to throw insults at anyone including political opponents, even in instances where they have been insulted or provoked by the opponents.

DEMOCRATIC CENTRALISM means that the organisation is democratic yet centrally run and given direction by upper structures and leadership. No member of MKP is allowed to communicate outside the policy, political and ideological prescripts, and direction of the organisation. Once decisions have been taken and communicated, no one is permitted to act outside the direction of the organisation, and no one is allowed to express or write a minority report that contradicts the policies and politics of the organisation. Democratic centralism does not prevent members from robustly engaging on all internal deliberations and decisions, but once decisions are taken, members must respect and defend the decisions of the organisation.

Commanders and Ground Forces are urged to work with these principles. That’s the only way the movement will live forever!
