I recently came across something that, unfortunately, makes a lot of sense. I couldn't help but laugh at its accuracy. ๐๐
It states, 'Research has found that many Africans become less religious when they relocate overseas because the government systems there provide 90% of their prayer requests.'๐คฃ๐คฃ
The truth in this statement is mind-blowing and amusing because it accurately depicts the situation in our continent.
Many of our prayer points stem from infrastructural inefficiencies and poor leadership. Our demons are not evil spirits; they are corrupt men and women in office whom we have elected willingly since time immemorial.
So why do people become less religious when they travel abroad? It's simple. Most of the things we fast and pray for here are easily provided there without stress. The government knows that its responsibility is to provide essential services and they are not doing you a favor. Itโs your right.
The three basic needs of lifeโclothing, food, and shelterโare easily catered for. Sickness is rare due to a clean environment. There are actually systems that work!! You wonโt camp at an office for weeks for a government document.
You reach your destination on time because they have invested heavily in that field.Nobody interferes with your life unnecessarily ; no witches or wizards, and nobody cares about how you live.๐๐
Sure granted, I have been overseas and from my research there are more factories, offices than religious institutions.
Before you crucify me for being anti-religious, allow me to say I ๐ฏ believe in God. The God I know has brought me from far very farโฆ but let me explain my stance.
Many people are religious because of the material benefits they hope to gain. When they travel, they realize these benefits can be easily attained with dedication and hard work.
Have you ever noticed that once someone steps into a developed country, they suddenly have the confidence to share daily vlogs or discuss their work and paychecks? Here in Africa you wonโt even dare. Our lives are shrouded in fear and superstitions.
But once they relocate It's as if they leave behind the cloak of fear behind; perhaps geographical differences mean our witches can't transcend. (Speaking of which, how were we colonized even with our numerous witches? ๐๐) Sorry, I digress.
What I'm simply trying to say is that Africa, as a continent, is immensely blessed, but the leadership! The leadership!!!
Kem Saro Wiwa the Nigerian was right. Africa kills her sun.
There is a crisis of leadership and governance in Africa, and we must face it. After all, we are the leaders we have been waiting for.
