@asxcry_ @kizuriley Not “still”. It was never before referred to it as a bishop. When the game got to England they changed the original “elephant” to a bishop. Only 3 or 4 countries that got the game via the English (like Iceland, Denmark and Norway) refer to it as biskop.

@kizuriley The original name, from the original Indian game, would be “elephant”. When it was brought to Persia, the Persian word for elephant is pil. When brought to the Arabic world, it became “al-fil”. In Spanish we still refer to it as alfil. Only in England they used a church reference
