"the only thing growing under this government are mortgages, rents and bills. is that what she really meant when she declared herself a pro-growth prime minister?"
SNP leader ian blackford skewering truss at PMQs
Ranting about an imaginary ‘anti growth coalition’ is just an attempt to obscure the hard reality that the biggest brake on UK growth is Brexit - and that’s on the Tories.
What a charlatan, only days before Douglas Ross was demanding the Scottish Government back his Westminster colleagues and give a tax cut to the wealthiest. He must think we are buttoned up the back, unfortunately for him people see right through the Tories.
Ahead of UK gov plan on energy bills:
1/ it must be an actual freeze - £2500 wouldn’t be. Current price cap £2000 (& that’s up 54% since Spring);
2/freeze must apply to businesses;
3/ paying for it mustn’t fall wholly on taxpayers/consumers - windfall tax must be part of mix.
A small, energy-rich country* of just 5m people on the shores of the North Sea has just cut its electricity tariffs to zero to help its people. It’s not Scotland.
But it *could* be.
1/ The new offer on the table from @COSLA is backed by a further £200m of @scotgov funding over this & next year. This ensures that the previous 5% offer is topped up to £1925 for all those earning below £39,000. For those earning £20,000 it delivers £2000, equivalent to 10%.
🧵 Very positive findings about the impact of the game-changing Scottish Child Payment. Important as we take forward plans to further increase its value to £25pw and roll out to children up to 16 years old.
£37 billion pounds. How much good could that have done for public health & the NHS- the actual people living in Britain- instead of being funnelled into private companies quickly set up to make money off the Covid crisis? Same story for PPE. https://t.co/wLtizKM8ue
Amazing really that with ‘no functioning IT system’ @SocSecScot is delivering £20 per week to low income families through Scottish Child Payment, as well as many other benefits that don’t exist elsewhere in UK.
Labour ‘attack’ lines increasingly hard to distinguish from Tories
One of the darkest days for women’s rights in my lifetime. Obviously the immediate consequences will be suffered by women in the US - but this will embolden anti-abortion & anti-women forces in other countries too. Solidarity doesn’t feel enough right now - but it is necessary.
An increasing number of people I know are testing positive for COVID & quite a few are unwell at home. Reminder that it’s not your fault if you get COVID, it’s not your fault if you’re sicker than others you know & your employer should offer sick leave so you can rest & recover.
How about part of passing a driving test includes having to cycle an hour locally -> to understand what it feels like to be on a bike on busy roads & how to drive in a safe way for cyclists too…
That audience member who stated on @bbcquestiontime 'look at Scotland and how privatising the railways hasn't work' is I'll informed, as ScotRail has offered a pay rise of 5% to rail workers, which ASLEF the rail workers Union is going to recommend they accept !

I have received a text supposed to be from NHS asking for bank details so I can pay £1.28 for postage for PCR est. Allegedly I'm a close contact of someone who tested positive.. Is this a scam?
On the 20th anniversary of @NHS24, First Minister @NicolaSturgeon praised staff for their commitment and tireless effort to ensure the public have access to the right information and support as she officially opened a new centre for the service in Hillington this morning.
UPDATE: First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has responded to the action taken by Vladimir Putin's regime in banning her from Russia.
“Putin is a war criminal and I will not shy away from condemning him and his regime," she said.
