Since Doug Wilson is trending again, re-sharing this online appendix of his parenting teaching in his own words.
The children in his community are incredibly vulnerable to abuse. 🚨🚨🚨
Oh, Doug, no. No. Christians are to examine the fruit. If the fruit is rotten, the teacher, *who is subject to greater judgment* does not get to cry "user error."
The teaching maps. Here is a thread of receipts: 🧵
Hey folks!
Recently I got a note from a friend excited that the church she was attending was using my paintings on the screen from Four Holy Gospels @crossway. She was excited that my works were being used. She even sent a photo of it.
The problem: they did not ask my permission to do so. The artist owns the copyright to their works even if it is used in a book. Even if the presenter gives attribution, the presenter must ask for written permission.
The photo showed that the colors were way off. It made me sad.
Digital images flatten my images. If I am presenting and using images, I spend at least half an hour to color correct the projector color temps (they are often too “hot”). I never use my works as stand-alone images nor as projected images and I never overlay or crop. This is to protect the integrity of the original.
Churches - please respect the copyright of artists. Thank you.
@dying2live4Him@extrasalt513 It’s a good question and one I wish I had an answer for. It could be that diocesan canons clarify.
My understanding is it means a bishop might does not ordain women but women ordained elsewhere might be allowed to transfer in or celebrate in the diocese.
I loved this conversation with @sandraglahnauthor! We discussed all sorts of things, including her new book “A Woman’s Place is in the Story!” Comment or DM, and I’ll send you the link so you can join us. #christianity#biblestudy#women
@extrasalt513 Also: I believe Cascadia does not ordain women to the priesthood. They used to license women ordained elsewhere but current bishop opposes WO so will be curious to see where they ultimately land.
@extrasalt513 Thank you for doing this! I’d be curious to see stats on how many female priests serve in each diocese too bc e.g. I’ve heard some in DWA say they have a functional moratorium on ordaining women to the priesthood.+
My friend Rick was a vulnerable person who needed help and pastoral support. Instead he was threatened by his bishop and inhibited. He went to police. He talked to lawyers. When he should have been protected and defended by his Archbishop, Steve Wood upheld the inhibition, already found by the court to be a “loathsome” act of abuse. Foley likewise told him to “fall on [Derek’s] mercy” and admit anything he had done, saying further that Rick could be deposed if he did not respond to these threats, and that there was nothing anyone else could do. Ray Sutton was likewise brought in according to documents as this was an “ecumenical affair”. These men are shameless! They know I can prove it all right now and they still won’t admit it to the Church!
@gmk_julie I could do a basic bean chili with biscuits or chicken salad on biscuits, but this would not happen because in no world would my husband invite 30 ppl over at the last minute & expect me to accommodate.
@callmeed I wonder what has changed. I worked at a hotel in college, and it didn’t make a difference, but I guess things were more analog then so housekeeping had to make their way to the rooms either way.
Locking a child in a room is a bad idea.
Humans coslept for millennia but if American parents don’t want to, put an extra mattress or blanket pallet on the floor near your bed. Start them in their room & if they can’t do it yet, they come sleep near you which is all they want.
This was exactly our approach - right up until, and I swear I'm not lying or exaggerating in the slightest, literally the 150th time we put him back in bed in one night. Then we just locked the door.
@SharonaZamboni@smithkl42 Yeah spanking a “truly disabled toddler”- whatever you mean by that - is not a good idea.
If a child has unique needs, it’s all the more reason to keep them close and not locked in a room.
@smithkl42 I get that you guys were stressed, but spanking a child to sleep connects sleep w/pain, teaches kids adults can hurt their bodies in bedrooms & does not address, issue which probably was a child afraid sleeping in a new place.
Connection & attachment are worth prioritizing
