Callais update: The 3-judge panel has set a 10/27 hearing to decide whether the case is over in light of the new map eliminating a Black-majority LA-06 or whether it should continue to allow plaintiffs to raise claims about the state's other Black-majority district.

One of the changes seen in data released this summer by the Census Bureau is that white population of the South is now beginning to shrink in absolute terms - not as much as other regions, but a big shift nonetheless.

10 of 15 southern states saw white pop fall between 24-25.

And the trend line in all of the 5 southern states that saw white population grow is also downward as birthrates and domestic migration slow.

Not exactly a surprise, but the 11th Circuit has vacated the lower court rulings striking down Georgia’s congressional & legislative maps on Section 2 grounds. Cases remanded to the district court for reconsideration in light of Callais.
