Great piece on the underlying problems in our student debt & higher ed system, with some nice data viz to show your uncle (or your local SCOTUS justice) who likes to say "i paid off my loans, why can't you?" https://t.co/yDnixOCpOx
Lots of very bad things this 6-3 majority has done, (Dobbs being, imho, the worst), but them deciding you are now $10,000 poorer than you were yesterday is really a helluva thing.
This is an important point - fights over the limited slots at Harvard and Yale are important, but they affect a miniscule proportion of students who are seeking higher ed
Just want to note that, though only a handful of institutions are selective enough to need to use race in admissions, those that do are incredibly well-funded and wealth stratification is _really bad_ in higher education already. From The State Must Provide:
There's a(nother) child care crisis coming, and it's going to land hardest on the people who can least afford it - families of young children and the people who care for them https://t.co/qRgGg3ZBOM
Fun fact, I picked Nusrat up from the train station when she visited campus while I was a SPIA student, and 8 years later, I still remember how much wisdom she dropped on me in that 10 min car ride. She will be an exceptional judge!
Congratulations to SPIA alumna Nusrat Chowdhury, of the Great Class of 2006, on her confirmation as the first Muslim female federal judge in U.S. history. https://t.co/44YFvOTqxV
The book is for middle grades (4th-7th ish), but truly a great read for anyone interested in feminism, sports, and/or politics! https://t.co/ba1lxAnwZr
Before Women's History Month ends, I wanted to share a shameless plug for my mom's book, Let Me Play, a history of Title IX. For the 50th anniversary this year, I worked with her publisher to update the book and add two new chapters on what's happened in the last decade or so.
Rereading the book from the perspective of now having worked in Congress, I was struck by how well it captures the quirky process of how big things get done.
Child care is a catch-22: way too expensive for parents (shout out to all my friends with little ones) while workers are criminally underpaid. We need more public $ and we need it yesterday!
While parents are struggling to pay for daycare, childcare teachers are getting paid less than a living wage across the state, a new survey by Children First PA found.
@LizzyMcLell reports.

62% of young Warnock voters & 60% of Black Warnock voters cited student debt relief as influencing their likelihood to vote... Among those who said it influenced their decision to vote, 93% of Black voters & 71% of youth said it increased their likelihood of voting for Warnock
Pennsylvania's school funding system is unconstitutional, with "manifest deficiencies" between low and high-wealth school districts, a Commonwealth Court judge ruled today -- close to a year after the landmark trial ended. More to come on this decision: https://t.co/uSnaO0WuPr
