We need to recognize and appreciate that the peace we now enjoy in our county is
borne of the collective resolve of our people to say goodbye to all forms hatred and conflicts and to embrace harmonious coexistence.
As leaders, let us play our parts in sustaining this peace. Let us all pray together that this peace continues into abyss of time; that the band of love and brotherhood we have rebuilt, grows stronger every day; and that the
harmony prevailing in our county lasts forever.
It would be very foolish for us to return to the path of war and destructions.
There is absolutely no need for anyone of us to pursue a path that could take us
back to the chaos and conflicts we have gone through for years.

I am happy to announce the launch of the Moyale Integrated Project (SWASAP) at Sololo today! We’ve expanded the Sololo Ramata Dam from 30,000 to 66,000 cubic meters, ensuring greater water storage capacity for the community. The project also includes renovating water tanks, extending pipelines to villages, and building a new water kiosk in town. This Ksh. 43 million initiative is funded by the County Government of Marsabit (Ksh. 22 million) and the Water Sector Trust Fund (Ksh. 21 million), and will be executed by Concern Worldwide. It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, Dr. Asfaw Kumsa, whose distinguished career spanned across national, regional, and international landscapes. With over three decades of service, Dr. Kumsa's impact as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver, a Senior UN Research Fellow, and Chief Technical Advisor at UNDP Kenya, among many other roles, has left an indelible mark on the fields of development studies, conflict prevention, and mediation.
Dr. Kumsa's legacy shines through his pioneering efforts in designing and implementing the UN's Cross Border Programme for Kenya – Ethiopia, a testament to his commitment to inclusivity and sustainable development. His magic touch, making the work of colleagues and communities easier, reflects a life dedicated to serving humanity.
A true servant of the UN systems, Dr. Kumsa excelled in capacity building, training, and research, engaging multiple stakeholders in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. His contributions to over sixty publications and leadership roles in professional associations showcase a dedication to shaping the discourse on regional development.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Kumsa will be fondly remembered for his kindness, gentleness, and genuine mentorship. His pleasant demeanor and big heart for helping others will forever be etched in our memories.
May Dr. Asfaw Kumsa rest in peace, knowing that his legacy continues to inspire and uplift those he touched throughout his extraordinary journey. The Marsabit County Blood Bank has received a brand new vehicle to help facilitate blood donation campaigns and services.

With the support of the THS UCP and through the Ministry of Health, as a department we have made significant strides in addresing maternal and perinatal deaths in the County. Thanks to a budget for fully equipping and operationalizing the Marsabit County Regional Blood Bank, we are now able to provide timely and life-saving blood transfusions to those in need.

And now, with the addition of this new vehicle, we can expand our reach and raise awareness about the importance of blood donation. We believe that by engaging with the community and organizing regular blood drives, we can make a meaningful difference in promoting maternal health.

The 12th day of December carries a double significance in our national calendar. It was on a day like today in 1963, when the British flag was brought down, and our own flag was raised for the first time, to signal the birth of a free Nation called Kenya.
A year later, in 1964, Kenya was admitted into the commonwealth and the United Nations Assembly joining the global community of independent and sovereign Nations.
We set aside the 12th day of December, every year, to commemorate the start of our journey along the path of national freedom and sovereignty.
This year, we celebrate the 60th year of that freedom and sovereignty.
This celebration is also an opportunity for us to pay tributes to the gallant sons and daughters of Kenya who fought for the freedom of their motherland and whose efforts and sacrifices finally set us free from the chains of colonialism. Happy #JamhuriDay2023
